January 23, 2013 Resolve to persevere

Artmaking involves skills that can be learned....In large measure, becoming an artist consists of learning to accept yourself, which makes your work personal, and in following your own voice, which makes your work distinctive. Clearly, these qualities can be nurtured by others. But even talent is rarely distinguishable, over the long run, from perseverance and lots of hard work.
- David Bayles / Ted Orland

January 3 Resolve to Take Care of Your Mail

You've got mail.  I am amazed at how much USPS mail I receive, one website claims we receive 41 lbs a year. What a waste, however, not much we can do to control it. You can have your name removed from mailing lists, but if you belong to any professional society your name and address is being sold like lemonade on a hot summer day.  So I resolved to sort my mail right over my garbage can, shredder and recycling bin. This eliminates "clutter" and allows you to deal with the mail that you actually need to address.

January 2 Resolve to NOT Procrastinate

Well I am not a true procrastinator. It makes me all nervous and unhappy when I do. I tend to do it when I don't like something. Like taxes for instance. I cannot stand financial things. Oh I like making money and certainly like enjoying it, but don't like having to manage it via the federal government. So this year I resolve to not procrastinate on anything.  How am I doing? Well I have already started planning on christmas gifts for next year, including making mike a new tree skirt and some ornaments for my tree. I have discovered that when you remove stressors life truly can be easy. Although not all speed bumps can be eliminated, if we eliminate the ones we can, it is much easier to find smooth sailing.

In the words of Olin Miller "If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, keep putting it off doing it." Oh how true that is.....

January 1 Resolve to spend more time with those you love!!

Happy New Year!!!! To say I love blogging is an understatement. It is just a fun way to chronicle events and to set goals. I have two additional blogs. This one started when I was thinking of a New Year's resolution.....why set one that will be forgotten and discarded within days. Why not set one small resolution every now and then again to make your life better and sweeter?  So the blog resolve to be better was born. I love quotations, The book Life's Little Instruction Book, and inspirational words, this blog is for me to keep track of positive changes, and fun moments in my life for 2013.

So my first small resolution started late in December and was to spend more time with those I love. I started with my mom, dad and sister. We spent and entire weekend together and were able to celebrate christmas with my mom's family and my dad's family.

I then spent Christmas eve with Mike's family, lots of fun with kids opening presents......New Year's eve day was spent with Megan, my good friend who started med school one and half years ago. New Year's day was spent with Kim and Michelle and their families.  I only get to see them a few times a year so this was an extra special way to ring in the new year. Although I may not be able to do this every day, it is so worth the while to spend time with the one's you love. This was a great start to a new year......
